Job Description
Overview:
The Senior Telecommunications Specialist will perform a variety of telecommunications tasks and work to develop, improve, maintain, and implement voice/data communication platforms. The incumbent will design, create, maintain and administer telecommunications infrastructure standards across branch and satellite locations. He/She will also provide support inclusive of Avaya Call Center and Call Center type applications and technology to junior staff and clients. The incumbent will provide level 2 type communication support calls to local branch offices, upgrade and maintain the telecommunications network, PC hardware, network servers and software, provide support for related equipment and coordinate work with various vendors and personnel for project upgrades as well as problem resolutions. He/She will also attend Project Meetings with vendors, business groups and IT personnel, document requirements and provide project management reports.

Responsibilities:
Administer Avaya IP telephony and Modular Messaging Solutions, as well as support legacy Definity PBXs and Octel Voicemail systems within assigned regions in the Telecommunications Group of ITS.

Oversee Telecommunications Ticket Que and ensure timely completion of tickets.

Assist with resolution of Telecommunications troubles within assigned regions. Coordinate with Specialists, vendors and end-users as required. Escalate to Telecommunications Manager as appropriate. Provide project status and ensure proper documentation is maintained.

Support and administer technology within consumer call centers inclusive, but not limited to programming call vectoring, VDN, hunt group and disaster recovery applications.

Support PBX programming, call accounting, ARS and route patterns, trunking designs, and dial plans such as UDP and ACD.

Support and administer Polycom Video conferencing units throughout selected offices. Implement and document as required.

Assist with generating Purchase Requisitions to Telecommunications Manager for approved equipment purchases within project responsibility. Validate associated invoices and assist with vendor payments as required.

Maintain Avaya CentreVu CMS and Veramark Ecas (Call Accounting) systems.

Coordinate and/or perform routine backups and system patching as required.

Coordinate Telecommunications requirements for branch office openings, relocation and closings inclusive but not limited to cabling, circuit orders/disconnects and system purchase and maintenance contracts.

Work closely with Telecommunications Administrative Analysts and Telecommunications Specialists to ensure that telecommunications lines are documented properly in databases.

Coordinate with business group and Telecommunications Administrative Analysts/Telecommunications Specialists for local, long distance, 800 and 800 call flow and feature orders.

Generate project plans and documentation in connection with implementing projects, new technologies and branch openings.

Coordinate voice and data MACs, including cross connects and updating documentation, on a timely basis.

Routinely monitor Telecommunication equipment, inclusive of ensuring that daily, weekly and monthly patching and system health tasks as well as disk usage and usage reports are run as required.

Trouble shoot server hardware issues and work closely with WAN/LAN personnel as required.

Identify cost saving technologies and processes as appropriate.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
(ONLY QUALIFIED CANDIDATES WILL BE CONSIDERED)

A degree in Computer Science or Business Computing is preferred, although experience may be substituted on a year for year basis.

Must possess at least 8 years of hands on technical experience. A minimum of 3-year experience in a Windows 2003 network environment is required.

Full proficiency on all aspects of Avaya IP telephone, Avaya/Lucent/AT&T Definity PBXs, Octel VoiceMail, Intuity and Avaya Modular Messaging systems is required.

Must be proficient in Avaya CentreVu CMS and able to complete PBX high level call center programming inclusive of ACD, UCD, call vector and DNIS commands.

Must have HP or IBM Server hardware experience. Knowledge of TCP/IP networking protocol is essential.

Must have an understanding concepts of LAN topology and WAN functions.

Experience with Visio and Microsoft Project is required. A good working knowledge of DNS/DHCP in a Windows environment is necessary.

The ability to be flexible and understand a wide range of Telecommunications concepts, practices, and procedures is essential.

Must be able to troubleshoot workstation connectivity and perform minor repairs of network components.

An understanding of convergent technologies as they apply to Telecommunications is necessary.

Must possess strong technical, analytical, communication and project management type skills.

Must be able to work independently and provide timely status updates, as well as able to manage multiple tasks.
